Despite his success as a soldier and potential Caesar of the Roman empire, he is probably more well known as the lover of Cleopatra. Various films have been made of the classic and ultimately tragic affair between these two historical figures (and apparently a new film is about to be made with Angelina Jolie as Cleopatra.)
